Engaging Portland communities in project discussions

The Portland Working Group (PWG) met from 2009 to 2011 to help ensure the community’s perspectives were incorporated into design and planning for the extension of the MAX Yellow light rail line from the Expo Center to Vancouver. PWG members represented residents and business owners from Hayden Island and North Portland. The group made recommendations related to design, mobility and access, transit planning, business and community outreach and impacts on businesses and neighborhoods for the Oregon transit segment.

Capturing community values to guide future
project decisions

PWG hosted a variety of open houses and workshops to engage the broader community on a variety of topics, including station and Hayden Island interchange design. In January 2010, PWG completed the Hayden Island Light Rail Station Conceptual Design Report. Principles within the report capture the community’s values and will help guide future project decisions.
